Notable Case Results in Criminal Law
Ms. Harris was on the trial team and participated in media appearances in the Ray Lewis murder trial. Baltimore Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis had been charged with murder in the stabbing deaths of two individuals in Atlanta after Super Bowl XXXIV, but the murder charges were dismissed as part of a plea bargain. Lewis pled guilty to a misdemeanor obstruction of justice charge and served 12 months’ probation.
Ms. Harris assisted in the defense of Atlanta rapper, actor and record producer T.I. in a federal case involving weapons charges. T.I. was arrested in 2007 and charged with two felony offenses of firearms possession involving several machine guns and silencers, charges for which he faced up to ten years in prison and $250,000 in fines on each count. Following plea negotiations and the submission of a guilty plea, T.I. was sentenced to a year and a day in prison, a year under house arrest, and was required to perform 1,500 hours of community service and pay a $100,300 fine.
Ms. Harris obtained a dismissal of a murder charge brought against a client in Florida after finding third-party DNA within the crime scene.
